When I write suffering, I’m not referring to an emotional state. It seems to me that suffering is a resistance to what it.

If suffering is appearing then suffering is appearing. If joy is appearing then joy is appearing. If obsession is appearing then obsession is appearing. If sadness is appearing then sadness is appearing. If strangeness is appearing then strangeness is appearing. There is no “me” that gets to choose what is appearing. Everything is just appearing effortlessly.
