Non-duality implies that everything that appears is an ‘illusion’. However the word illusion is misleading.

This is absolutely not true. Reality is not an illusion. The only illusion is the subject-object separation that is the self. The self-illusion sees itself everywhere and believes that reality depends upon it. The self experiences itself as real, and therefore what is happening as real. What is happening, is non-dual and is both real and unreal.

A snake is projected upon the rope. It is known as an illusion after the snake is negated. There was never a snake, only the rope. The appearance of snake was an illusion.

This is a great analogy. The only illusion it’s referring to is the illusion of self, which is the illusion of subject-object separation. Everything is exactly as it appears, but is misconstrued as being about and for someone, an illusory subject with an illusory perspective.
