The study of the effect of trauma on mental health is necessarily very shallow; it’s not possible to accurately and objectively map someone else’s experience. Everyone suffers from trauma to some degree. There are traumas that never get associated or attributed to mental health issues. In my work as a therapist and coach, I have been able to almost always trace mental health issues back to a root trauma. Sure, other factors can influence what symptoms trauma leads to, but there is no one other factor that is present in all or nearly all cases.
