The problem (if there was a problem) is that science is based on the concept of subject-and-object; that there is a reality that can be observed, known, and understood by something that is separate from it. The problem (if there was one) is that the basic presupposition that there is separation is incorrect, and is only the feeling of being a separate self.
There’s no (ego) dissolving that’s happening. There’s just a recognition that the buckets of “me” and “not me” don’t actually exist in any real sense. It’s an idea that keeps trying to prove itself to itself in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is why there seems to be so much struggling in humans: we seem to be trying to hold something together that has no basis in reality.
Take a look at “your” hand. It may be very clear that there is a concept of it being your hand and that what is outside of the skin is not you. That concept has zero basis in reality. What seems to be outside the skin is no more you than what seems to be inside the skin, because there is no you.
You might say, “but I can feel pain when I cut my hand, while I don’t feel pain when I cut the table.” That proves nothing. It only shows that cutting what is called a hand seems to cause pain, whereas cutting what is called a table does not. The “me” is an arbitrarily inferred concept. Why not, instead, assume that things that don’t feel pain are you?
