Reverence and arrogance are two sides of the same coin. If they seem to be happening, then that’s what seems to be happening. They’re not wrong. Are they related to evolution? Perhaps in the story of time. When I wrote about putting gurus on pedestals, I was talking about reverence.
The illusory self cannot help but try to position itself as above or below other illusory selves. Your guru tells apparently says that people “should” not to do that, not apparently recognizing that there is no one who could or could not do that, nor recognizing that it is whole and complete, the infinite appearing as that.
There is no should, there is only what seems to be happening.
