Day 16: Better Than Bond

It’s day 16, and life is opening up more and more every day.

I didn’t give you an update yesterday because we were traveling from one side of the country to the other.

The cold showers are going really well. I am now at 8 minutes (480 seconds). The cold water actually feels pleasant now, even refreshing. I have learned that James Bond (in the books) turns his showers cold at the end, known as a “Scottish Shower.” I go cold from the start.

I’m experiencing additional signs that suggest that my hormones are working more correctly. I used to need to get up to pee several times each night. Last night I slept 11.5 hours and didn’t need to get up to pee once. This means that my body is creating and/or responding to luteinizing hormone (LH) more correctly. LH, produced by gonadotropic cells in the anterior pituitary gland, is a hormone that is also involved in the creation of testosterone.

A stack of several months of morning pages. AA battery for scale.

A second sign is that my sleep patterns have changed. I seem to have a more pronounced sleep cycle than before, almost waking up several times throughout the night. This seems to be a sign that my sleep is following a more natural 90-minute cycle (N1 -> N2 -> N3 -> N2 -> REM). My dreams also seem clearer, less disturbed, and more productive. I feel like I’m actually working through things in my dreams.

It’s great to see that I’m inspiring various folks to run their own schedules. You know who you are. You’re inspiring me back.

Here is some more cold shower inspiration.
