I used to buy into the nonduality argument/philosophy until I met a cultural anthropology professor who had gone deeply into the matter.

Cool. Non-duality is not an argument or a philosophy; it’s just a label for the non-separate nature of reality.

Essentially, she said and I now agree that the whole nonduality narrative is a twisted and out of balance reinterpretation of some of the more esoteric Buddhist and Hindu philosophies.

Interesting. I’m not sure exactly what narrative you’re referring to, but it sounds like non-duality was not revealed there. If it had been, she would have been saying that non-duality is probably what was being talked about by the people who those religions were formed around. The message always gets warped by the self-illusion to be about somebody attaining something (e.g. Cosmic Consciousness). So, it’s the other way around. It’s even possible for someone to have a glimpse of non-duality and then for their own self-illusion to re-appear and claim it; this is what seem to happen with a lot of spiritual teachers (i.e. “I am enlightened”). There is only enlightenment.

The nature of living on earth is more like the Buddha sitting under the Bodhi tree. When we are realized in balance we at the meeting place of the overarching consciousness of all that is and individual consciousness of the 10,000 things. This is the middle way.

Hm. That’s not really how it is. This is a misunderstanding. There is only liberation. The 10,000 things are “consciousness” appearing as 10,000 things, but it’s not conscious. Non-duality / the absolute / whetever-you-want-to-call-all-that-is is the only thing there is; it’s only conscious when a self-illusion gets hold of it and tried to co-opt it as a “Me” with a big M.

Just to be clear, I am not Buddhist or religious. If you were to bring this topic up with an advanced, green, and well balanced Shaman, they could break down the cosmology for you. Problem is we have separated ourselves from nature and natural forces so much a really good and grounded Shaman is difficult to find.

Meh. It’s not that complicated. I’ve met many shamans / lamas / gurus who don’t know what they’re talking about.

I spent decades on nonduality.

Wow. How the heck did you achieve that?

You are welcome to as well.

There’s nothing to spend time on. In the story of time, the self dropped away here around seventeen years ago and it was revealed that non-duality is all there is. It serves no purpose. Sometimes non-duality appears as an illusion of separation and sometimes not. So what?

If I read an article about the struggle to understand what consciousness is, I might reveal that it’s so hard to understand because it’s an illusion. That’s all.

For me, it is more in line for someone living in some far beyond Spirit realm close to the source of potentially than human beings who live on a very green nature based realm and planet. Look up the Buddhist cosmology and you will see what I mean. Do more work before buying into this.

All these other realms that people talk about don’t exist. There is only what seems to be happening. All this stuff about things other than what seems to be happening is just a bunch of ungrounded concepts being believed as being somehow real. What is is blindingly obvious. It’s only the illusion of self that wraps itself in a thick blanket of concepts and philosophies. There’s nothing to get, nothing to understand; it’s too simple to understand. There’s no way to get any further from it, or any closer to it.

The metaphysics of nonduality don’t fit this planet

Look around. That’s non-duality. How can non-duality not fit on this planet? It’s all there is. What might be argued doesn’t fit on this planet is the belief in something else, but that’s just non-duality appearing as a belief.

zombies are a whole different thing all together and trust me you don’t want to go there.

It’s not possible not to go there as long as there are people around. All human bodies are philosophical zombies. Nothing wrong with it. It seems fine to me. It’s just how it is.

Good Luck! You are in very dangerous territory that you know not.your head and philosophical/conceptual understanding are not your friend.

This is not a philosophical understanding. I’m writing about how reality is. What’s the danger? There’s just what’s happening.
